"Yaum-e-Istaqamat" was observed on Sunday in southern Punjab to express solidarity with the quake-stricken people of NWFP and Azad Kashmir. Special prayers were offered for the people who died or injured in the earthquake. Traffic stopped at 08:51am when the siren were sounded and a silence of one minute was observed at 08:52am.
A rally was organised by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) led by Mian Bilal Naqeeb and Feroza Zahra. Participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans," Complete rehabilitation work in quake hit areas before winter," Provide Shelter to victims," we are with the quake stricken people".
Special prayers sessions were held in Aligarh college, Punjab college, children of lit the candles to express solidarity with the quake-hit people particularly children.
A seminar and Fateha Khawani was also held for the departed souls of the deceaseds which was attended by District Nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar, Town Nazim Mian Jamil Ahmed, Syed Wajid Ali Shah District Naib Nazim.
Opposition leaders Rana Mehmoodul-Hassan MNA, Begum Nasim Chaudhry, MNA, Malik Liaquat Ali Dogar, MNA said," In spite of elapsing 365 days, victims are still homeless, jobless and in miserable condition and government failed to rehabilitate the quake hit people and major part of foreign as well as national aid was embezzled. We are observing first anniversary of quake with sobs and tears which left more than 73,000 people dead, 69,412 seriously injured and 3.5 million displaced".
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) organised a congregation for Quran Khawani and Fateha for the departed souls of quake stricken people. Which was also attended by Begum Sultan Shaheen, Begum Shamshad Noorullah, Shaheen Shafiq, Azra Wajid Tehrik-e-Insaf Pakistan organised "Fateha Khawani" which was attended by Dr Farooq Langah, Saleem Bukhari, Major Mujeeb Ahmed Khan (Retd), Jawad Amin and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan also held Quran Khawani. Qari Ahmed Mian prayed for the quake hit people in Jamia Khair-ul-Meeaad.
